Wanting to start a non denom multi cultural church..
Hey all!! I am considering moving from St. Louis Missouri to Austin Texas to start a non denominational church hoepfully multi ethnic in Austin. I am an African American male with a wife and 3 young children. I am very excited as I have heard wonderful things about Austin..Any feedback as where are these type of churches and do they exist with an African American Pastor? Looking forward to hearing from you about this subject or just Austin period..

I just moved here myself, but sounds like a fun idea for a church. I am attending a church startup myself here in North Austin. It is small, I love it.

I have been told by friends in the ministry that although Austin seems to have a zillion and one Bible churches, it is actually a hard city to get a plant to work in. I would suggest you contact some of the larger churches that you would have something in common with as a pastor to see if they can tell you about current opportunities that they see. The church I was a member of in Austin was always helping to plant churches in the areas around Austin. Good luck! Sounds like a neat idea.

its seems like a church that would be welcomed there in Austin. I am fundamentalist baptist and have a hard time locating a church there in Austin(there maybe 2) unlike in the DFW area that i am used to.
God bless and hope you are blessed to find your community there

Call me whatever but why not just go to an existing church? They are going to be preaching the same thing so why the need for a new one?
God bless

not all do preach the same thing, some are actually preaching different messages and to different demographics. alot are not multi cultured and some people, for a reason other than ignorance i dont understand, tend to be comfortable with same races, same ethnic group.
Its a good thing that a diverse community have institutions that want to break down the barriers of race and ethnicity so that they can better live out their beliefs and creeds. often times there isnt a church in a certain area of a city which caters to the needs of a diverse population, sadly. so another church plant is definitely needed.

I agree with carolinajack. To add to that, the recent church plants in this area have been doing well. One of them only started last year and already moved to it's own building. The churches out here seem to be relatively mixed. I'm sure it's that way anywhere in the area though.

I live in Seattle and although I don't attend this church (Antioch Bible Church) many people do because it is multi-cultural both in ethnicity and socioeconomic status. That is the big draw there and it is a huge church.
