AAAH! Flip flopping on Relo- help!
It's been months since I"ve checked out the Austin forum. We thought we decided on Sarasota, FL for relocating from NC. Now I'm rethinking Austin ( driving my husband crazy ).
I'm a nurse with 2 toddlers ( schools important in a couple years, but want lots of tot parks, etc )** neighborhoods where they'll definitely be exposed to the more artsy feel of Austin, but are in my nurse salary price range ( 1200 or less / mo). I want to live very close to a hospital for work- and prefer the hospital to be a more community type more than a big trauma center.
Please help- I sooooo appreciate any input and intend to start looking thru the forum archives for info again.

Round Rock, in Paloma Lakes or Tera Vista. They are very close to the new hospital, and it's a smaller type hospital.

Teravista would be an awesome choice. It's a little far north for some Central/South Austin stuff, but the community in Teravista is awesome and during spring you could easily walk to work.

Can I ask you why someone could not walk the rest of the year? (looking to move there soon just wondering why I would only want to walk in spring)

It can be god-awful hot in the summer! I used to walk to the bus stop to my workplace in the summer (about 5 blocks). It is okay in the mornings (but going into an icebox-like office is a shock) but at 5 pm in the afternoons in July and August downtown . . . HOT! Thank goodness I was young then.

Well, I figure I'll die from coronary disease because of the winter hibernation here. Now I figure I'll die from heat stroke down there. Really, I'm screwed either way. I'm trying to learn how to be optimistic but I don't know how well I'm doing. I'm guessing not too good but how do I tell if I tend toward the negative? Anyway, are the hottest months July and August then?

I did the same thing: Austin then Denver then Austin again... It boiled down to the job opportunity. Then oddly enough I had a layover in Denver on my way home from Austin, and KNEW I'd made the right choice. I have family in both places, so I was equally divided between them. But my DH, kids and I are more "hot weather" than "cold weather" so, we're happy with our decision.
You'll know it's time to move when things start happening. Don't force it. I'm moving sooner than I expected (by about 3 months) because of the job, but I have to say, EVERYTHING's fallling into place. That's a sign to me that it's meant to be. If you feel like you're pulling teeth, wait it out.
I'm happy to leave the rat race behind!!!

LOL...if you can take the walk in the heat then you'll be fine. A nice large parasol or heck even a golf umbrella will be okay, but in mid August when the need hit's high 90's by 11:00am w/ the humidity needle already at 65%+, I would hope I live very, very close to the entrance of the neighborhood!
Also in January it's freakin' cold as all get out and the wind especially there is like Chicago almost...gusty! But really, so you'd have to drive the 1-2 miles to work 2 maybe 3 months out of the year and on the really rainy days in Mar.-early May....that's really not that bad is it?

You say you're going to be making $1,200 a month as a nurse. I would assume part time. Most nurses I know make well over 40-80k a year.
