My husband might be working in Leander, I hope to work close to where I live, but I want downtown to be an option.

Ok, would the commute to downtown would be bad from Cedar Park? Depending on which side of Cedar Park (which would determine which main road you would take into town), it would be 35-45 minutes on an average day. If there was a wreck or bad weather it could take an hour. My neighbor drives downtown everyday (so, yes, it is an option) and when her child was in daycare, she called me several times to pick him up b/c she was stuck in traffic.

I wonder how the upcoming train service will affect this?

Probably not very much, unless of course, some ignoramus parks their car on the train tracks again as portrayed in the recent news story when the City was testing the system.
