Hi!

We are ready to add a new puppy to our family and, after lots of research, are strongly considering a cockapoo.

Of course, all the breeders I have talked with think this is the "perfect" dog for us, but I would like to talk with someone who has first-hand knowlege of day-to-day life with a cockapoo, and no stake in whether I get one or not.

I have lots of friends and neighbors with dogs, but I don't personally know anyone with a cockapoo. This seems like just to big a decision to make based on web research and what the sales person is telling me.

So, if you own a cockapoo, know someone who does, or know of an "Austin cockapoo lovers group" or something of the sort, please let me know.

Thanks!

We had one when I was growing up. Of course then there weren't "designer dogs" like now. She was a good dog, very loving and smart, but I can't attribute those characteristics to cockapoos only. What are you looking for in a dog that would lead you to narrow it down to this specific mix of breeds?

Have you looked at Town Lake Animal Center or other shelters/pet rescues for a dog that would work with your family? You might also search for poodle or cocker spaniel rescue groups in the region - they might have mixes of the breeds as well.

Yeah, try to rescue a dog instead of buying one. Australian Shepherds are amazing family dogs. I work with the Aussie Rescue in town and they have some wonderful dogs available for adoption.
