After looking at a place in Turtle Creek, Round Rock (and in the Stoneypoint HS area), 2 seperate family friends (a teen and an unrelated parent) told me that there was some hispanic gang activity and that the school was also known as "stonERpoint". Could this be true in Round Rock??? I have kids and so schools are important to me...

Every school has some nickname kids call it. It's what kids do...for example Westwood has been known as Wastewood since the 80s at least and that's considered one of the best HS's in the state.

If schools are important... then you might want to identify the schools (& not school districts) that are a good fit for your family prior to looking at real estate.

I don't have an opinion on StoneyPoint. (but Westwood is the highest rated high school in Greater Austin / San Antonio)

It's so hard to do with all the boundry changes that are forthcoming...

RRISD holds public hearings on boundary changes (http://www.impactnews.com/northwest-austin/recent-news/3248-rrisd-holds-public-hearings-on-boundary-changes - broken link)

If you're set on RRISD, move very close to Westwood HS.

Austin does have gangs, but they are EXTREMELY small in numbers and inactive. I'm thinking that either the APD is phenomenal and doesn't play around, or that most gangs find Austin 'lame' and relocate to San Antonio and other larger cities instead (found quite a few down there, though). Either way, it is truly a blessing and you should enjoy Austin and its virtually non existent violent crime.
