to be honest, those inspection stations are highly regulated. i don't think any dishonest person can get away with tooooo much scamming.

The JiffyLube on 183 past Cypress Creek is actually pretty good. I had mine done a couple of weeks ago with no problems, and they were fast. I wouldn't recommend do ANYTHING else with Jiffy Lube though. They're known for their scams.

You canjust go to Jiffy Lube. it's a standard inspection. They all use the same equipment and charge the same price.

I agree that most of the places are honest. If you're concerned, you can always get a second opinion on any work that needs to be done.

If you want to find one near your house, check with the Texas DPS station locator.

I had my car inspected at Sticker Stop. I went to the one on 620 by lakeline mall. I saw they just opened one by my house in Leander on 183. Their website is stickerstop.com

Momme, everyone has been re-inspected at least once since this thread was alive; but, I still like to recommend the Arbor Oil/Inspection station on 183 access road north of Lake Creek Pkwy. You can print out a coupon for a free car wash(might not even need the coup...my last inspection invoice had the coup on the bottom) when you get an inspection.(No car wash at that location but the wash on Jollyville is not too far away)

Nice to get a little something for 'buying' the yearly inspection.

Same with one of ours...the other was only 4 months old when we moved here and it had to have a full inspection since it came from out of state.

On the plus side, I see about 1 vehicle every few days with an obvious non-compliant condition(easiest to notice is a dead brake light) here in north Austin. Back in Atlanta, you would see NO brake lights/one head light, failing exhaust system, fake dealer tag, etc at darned near every intersection . I know the TX system isn't perfect; but , it is doing the job(mostly).
