Horseshoe Bay Life - happy or unhappy
Can anyone who lives in Horseshoe Bay comment on whether or not you are happy with your decision to move there? Pros and Cons of life there? Looking at a possible move - not into the million $ homes, just the average joe homes in the $100-$200 range? Is the airstrip bothersome to residents? And, the big one - do certain areas flood and if so - which ones should I avoid?

I'm reading but I'm not a resident and I don't even know where horseshoe bay is. There is a bay around Austin? How? there's no water.

Horseshoe Bay is in Marble Falls. I don't know anything about living there as I've only been to Kingsland/Lake LBJ on Vacation. I DO know that I absolutely fell in love with the waterfront homes there because everything was so green/grassy/sloping and full of trees and the houses were nice but definitely NOT pretentious as they are on Lake Travis.

We just visited the area and stayed at Horseshoe Bay.We were putting it on our list of areas to check out from Lago Vista out there. The resort is from the 70's I think and they did a nice job keeping it modern. Food was terribly expensive but we expected that. We met some very nice people from the area that live there and people were very genuine and friendly. We drove around and it is pretty but we didn't find many businesses, restaurants etc. Gas station, various real estate companies and that's about it. We didn't see a grocery store. We were probably on the wrong road so I am not certain. We drove into Marble Falls to eat.
However, we decided, it's not the place for us. For no particular reason other than we just didn't care for the multiple tourists in the area and the beach/lake/vacation theme. I don't like seeing people hanging out in bathing suits and not working when I am working. LOL!!! So I think that part about it would get under my skin and make me want to play hooky. And the houses I saw probably were extremely pricey but they were nice.
At breakfast we met a woman from Sunrise beach??? I think that's what she said. She said she loved it. But she did mention she had a custom house.

I've got friends that live out in Horseshoe Bay. They love it. 'Course, they live in a million $+ custom home and can often be found boating during work hours. 'Course, they also have a custom boat. Think I could learn to even love Detroit/Baltimore/Cleveland if I had a custom home on the water with a custom boat to boot.

Okay thanks so much. I was looking online at real estate and the taxes seem to be a bit high - almost as high as Georgetown property taxes.

Horseshoe is a nice place to relax and have some fun
I grew up in Horseshoe and it was a wonderful place. Lots of peace and quite along with alot of fun and great people. Sheridan Island is the best for just hanging out. Not alot of work there unless your a commerical fisherman of the sorts, blue crabbing, fishing, shrimping or in buisness for yourself some way or another, but you cant beat the people there, they are very warm and welcoming, and the sunsets are to die for. Have alot of fond memories of the place and the people. I think you'll find what your looking for in home prices there if you go look for yourself and not use the internet to do so, not everyone there uses the net. It also has a great history to it if you look into it, you'll find it was foundered in the 1800's by CC Douglas and Mr. Butler and back then the land was sold for $10.00 a parcel. hope I helped a little. green butterfly
