Default Visiting Austin

Hey Y'all,

I'm here in Austin now visiting from Los Angeles. The flight over was easy, but man, getting through LAX is such a hassle. Traveling light takes a lot of skill, and I don't have it yet. I never know how to pack and always bring too much stuff. I should have also planned on a hotel. I think it's best to plan ahead and get a hotel in downtown Austin, so you can drop your stuff off and walk around. I didn't do that. Instead I ended up in some cheap hotel off the I-35. It's a learning process! And it's hard work visiting new towns to search for a home. Anyhow, all that said, Austin is great. Downtown Austin is fabulous. I love the Hideout coffee shop, which I went to twice yesterday. I found my way to a mall, where I shopped at the Gap, JCrew, and Macy's. I had to go there because it's humid and warm here and I forgot to pack enough T-shirts. The people in Austin are really nice. Nobody seems to get too worked up about anything. In Los Angeles, you always have to watch your back because the vultures are swarming, but I don't get that feeling here at all. Oh, yeah, I went driving around Town Lake yesterday. Some of the homes on the lake are huge. Wish I could afford a home in that area. I saw some areas of South Austin that were run down. Anyhow, I'm hooking up with a real estate agent later.

Artie

Yes, they have hills and green trees here. But it's not as green as Western Mass where I used to live.

Less rain = less green

More sun = more brown

The 'green' here is seasonal. The spring can be incredibly green, and with the current little rainy spell, there is hope yet. The wildflowers can be spectacular some years, but I think the dry fall will limit the flowers this spring.

Also, the green here is a paler green, in most cases. The vivid green of the east coast area is very rare here, but the lighter green is more common for the high heat/high sun environment.
