We ended up choosing Veggie Heaven. It was delicious! The atmosphere is totally a "u-district" combined with Chinatown experience, with its good and bads. The space is small, very small. I guess in the future we will order to go, but definitely will go back to try more of their great looking menu.

When Mother's burnt down, I fleetingly believed that God cared about cooking!!

Casa de Luz (or however you spell it) is well overdue for a lightning bolt. I am an unrepentant omnivore but I miss West Lynn Cafe, where I could go with vegetarian friends and eat a meal that did not taste like something the rabbits had just refused. Veggie Heaven is fine, and many Austin restaurants have good vegan/vegetarian options. The salads at East Side Cafe can be wondrous - they grow many of their own greens, and I have also eaten excellent pumpkin ravioli there too!

John had West Lynn and his partner in crime is Cameron at Mothers, same group as guys doing the same great things at two different locations. Mothers is a good place to eat before and after the fire!

Eat side is very good too. The girls are old Austin restaurant people. another fine Austin Restaurant

I founded the Austin Vegetarian Meetup group a couple years ago, and the girl who has since taken over has turbo charged it. They have events at least a few times/month and do some really fun stuff.
Some local favorites:
-Homemade veggie burger at P. Terry's
-Frito Pie with seitan at both Jo's locations
-Mother's (best one out of any)
-Veggie chorizo burrito at Guero's
-Dog Almighty on S. Lamar -- they can do their entire menu vegetarian. You can get a cheddar chili dog without any animals in them!

We have lots of store markets - Newflower, Sprouts, Central Market, WF, and Sun Harvest - those are the ones I know about. There are also REAL markets that operate on Saturdays downtown and Sunset Valley.
