Vegetarian restaurants in Austin
Hi all, I have recently become mostly vegetarian to be in solidarity with my girlfriend's dietary choices. What are some of the best vegetarian restaurants in the Austin area? We plan on visiting as soon as we can save up enough money to do so. All feedback is welcome. Thanks.

I went to a couple indian grocery stores, and the very-indian-looking-indians recommended "bombay express" as best indian w/ lots of veg choices. Havent yet confirmed this.
btw check for indian buffets..

Remember, too, that quite a few restaurants that aren't "vegetarian" still, in Austin, have a vegetarian menu (smaller than the regular one, but still there) and that many of the dishes on the regular menu qualify as vegetarian (though not always vegan).

Here are a few more:
Veggie Heaven
Casa De Luz
Wheatsville Co-Op
Mr. Natural
Little Ceasars Pizza, they use vegetable rennet in cheese
Whole Foods like crazy
Also, if you like tacos TacoDeli which does not bill itself as vegetarian has an excellent vegan taco, but you have to ask for it, it's not on the menu. It's called "The Freakin Vegan"

Hi, all. Thanks for the suggestions. I've heard of Mr. Natural, Casa de Luz, and, of course, Whole Foods. I currently live in Florida and am seriously considering relocating to the Austin area. I just hope I can cope with the heat (although living in Tallahassee for seven years has exposed me to some wicked summers-humidity is my arch nemesis!). I'll have to tough it out.

I totally forgot the freakin vegan at TacoDeli, it is awesome.
I guess it depends how much time you spend outside. The heat doesn't bother me so much since most of the time I'm inside at work and on the weekends I pick activities that won't make me feel like I'm in a bbq pit.

What place would you recommend for lunch on a Sunday. Hopefully a family friendly place?

You can eat vegetarian at most any restaurant. Even perry's steakhouse. mother's on Duval is my choice.
