What about Chuy's? I still like the Oasis (the food isn't THAT bad!) It is also a great place for having some drinks while watching the sunset.

(food is just as if not more important than ambience, in my opinion.)
The East Side Cafe looks great!
I have to admit, I'm still on the lookout for a restaurant that has big red (or some other color) booths and is dark. One that preferably serves comfort food & chocolate pudding for dessert (which, I know, completely defeats my giving up wheat, sugar, & starch. Sue me)
I probably won't take my sister-in-law there, but has anyone been to "Romeo's?" I drive by it all the time.

Yes, I've been to Romeos and it was REALLY disappointing in terms of quality. The place itself is really cute, but the food was just terrible.

We were just at the Oasis last week and two out of three of us thought the food was subpar and dry. But it is worth a trip for drinks if you have outta towners.

I know ZTejas is now a chain, but the original location on 6th is still incredibly charming and the food is delicious. I suppose at 8:30 it's a little late to give you advice on where to have dinner tonight, but I thought I'd throw that in there anyway.

Their verde enchiladas are pretty good (at both Chuy's and the Oasis). But that's about it for the Oasis. I still go there for the view, though. You just can't beat that sunset, and I'm willing to put up with the sub par food.

So true. Cute, but everything else is meh and overpriced. Brick Oven (Red River) is better, but still overpriced.

It's Austin, so your allowed to be weird .... so take 'em to Hey Cupcake for dessert first, then walk over to Guero's on SoCo and see if you get the transgender waiter/ess. Then head to Tropheys for a beer afterward.
