Austin did NOT make Forbes most recent list of "Most Livable Cities"
.... that should calm down some of the posters on this site. That is, if anyone truly believes that these lists have any bearing on someone choosing a relocation destination.

That's it! We're moving to Peabody, Massachusetts instead! Who's with me?

I would buy 12 of the selections, especially Madison. I've heard good things.
except:
Baltimore?
Tulsa?
Portland Maine?
seriously? Go onto the Portland Maine forum and check out how many threads pertain to "are you staying here/why are all the young people leaving/does this town have a future, etc..." The same goes for the Balt. forum. The people living there make it sound like heroin use is out of control and 75% of the city you can get mugged in broad daylight.
I really don't know how to tell the difference between truth and marketing. Not trying to be a downer, but the truth is out there, and it won't always be in a Forbes article.

What?!? You mean no one is going to move here anymore? How will our economy survive without northern money?

These studies and stats change faster than the weather..If a place is in the top 25 it is great for the chamber of commerce to publicize, but you are right, it is just a bragging right. Very few people are going to go the Forbes to decide where to live or any such study. If they do, they would need to change their minds every couple of weeks.

actually Tulsa is an up and coming city just like Oklahoma City but maybe in some ways more so. It has some outstanding medical facilities, nice walking trails, low cost of living and enough population growth to be attractive without over-powering the city government and the surrounding areas. It is drawing a younger group of professionals and skilled craftsmen. Is it the cultural center of the mid-west, nope, but I would take it anyday over Little Rock. That is the one that surprised me,

I think its a bunch of bull whether Austin makes it or not....its all just like what restaurant is cool for the year.....they change so often, which proves it all itself....I do think Austin made too much hay of them when it WAS on all those lists, but if it stops making appearances, no loss....it was getting old anyway....If Austin can't be respected on its own merits now, without getting on those lists, it never will anyway!

That list is COMPLETELY INSANE! Peobody, Mass? Worcester, Mass? My usual response to someone who says "I live in Worcester" is "I'm sorry." And they usually reply "I know, me too."
Cambridge, MA is awesome but I don't think you can buy a house there for under 1 million! How is that "liveable?"
