Van Morrison is going to be there???? Please, all you natives, and non natives, talk about Austin City Limits. Fill those of us in that haven't been to Texas yet.

I saw Van Morrison at the Armadillo World HQ back in 1974 and for sheer musical tightness and perfection it is still the most memorable concert I've ever been to. The rapport between Morrison and his band was amazing. I didn't think of him as young them (well, I was 19), so he's got to be quite a geezer by now. I wonder if he can still perform with so much energy...

Maybe you should fly out to the concert, see him and let me know if he's really the geezer you think he is. If there is an energy factor with age I think it increases so it should be a good show!

Let's hope that Van shows a little bit more respect for the concert-goers than he has over the years. He is a genius but also a drunk and many of his performances have been marred by his being intoxicated and boorish. Hopefully, he will demonstrate his best work in Austin. I have great memories hearing him in the early 70s at the Sleeping Lady Cafe in Marin County, California. Austin today is reminiscent of the halcyon days of music in the Bay Area during that epoch.

they dont seem to have many country acts any more, or at least i havent seen much in recent years. growing up in Texas i loved watching ACL to check out my fav country music and traditional/and Alt Country music groups play.

Foster and Lloyd
Pat Green
Gillian Welch
Merle Haggard
Leann Womack

so i hope they still do but have to wait to see the show more often when i move to Austin

My point, oldtoilets, is that in '74 Van Morrison seemed to be absolutely on top of his game. It's still the best concert I've ever seen from a technical musical standpoint (though when Dylan started touring again in 1974 that was a more momentous event in my life -- saw him early on in Houston). However, time and the vicissitudes of life do change people. No need to be defensive -- I'm not young anymore either.

Let's just be happy Van is still around and touring..saw Dylan a few years ago, and gravelly and all, still nice to just share space with such genius...and true that people, even our old heroes, change, for better AND worse..

Pearl Jam has been confirmed. Here's hoping they'll play mostly their old stuff.
