God forbid we teach our kids that it's OK to be different and that they should do whatever they want as long as it makes them happy and doesn't hurt anyone else.

A lot of things can screw up a kid, but I'm not sure how seeing a transvestite is one of them.

Is it good to be different and pass out drunk in front of people? Especially children? I think people should feel sorry for Leslie instead of wanting a photo op with him.

OK, then use him as a cautionary tale. "See kids? When you drink you end up passed out in women's clothing!"

You know, I don't think I've ever seen Leslie drunk, even at events where everyone else is. (Not saying he doesn't drink, just that I've never seen it and am not about to make an assumption that he passes out drunk in public just because he looks different.)

I HAVE seen him running for mayor, though. Maybe that would be a better cautionary tale?

I see Leslie around all of the time, and he/she is always very friendly and engaging. I think it's weird when people cast aspersions on folks they've never met or don't know personally.

Missed EB this year, but enjoyed it last year. I'll echo some of the other people on here: I'd rather my kid go to EB(under my supervision) than get de-sensitized and dumbed down gobbling up 90% of most pop/TV culture.

But not Austin weird, which is more accepting of differences than that.

I agree with your last paragraph, too. Homogenization might be good for milk, not so good for people's brains.

My kids did not witness Leslie, but i wouldn't have minded, there is nothing wrong with diversity and actually Leslie's costume was far easier on my boys than say; the painted sliver and gold girls....! I teach my children that it is ok to be different.
