Default Humidity in Austin

We lived in New Braunfels for six months last year, and are considering a move back to TX - Austin. My husband thinks the humidity is less in Austin than it is in New Braunfels or San Antonio. Yes or no ~ ?

Hmm ... it feels about the same to me (New Braunfels and Austin). San Antonio is when I start to notice the change in humidity -- definitely more humid there than in Austin.

About the same. 80-90% in the mornings and 40-50% in the afternoon into the early evening, with the rare day or two of real low humidity after a front.

Slightly more humid in the San Antonio area than in Austin, and SA is hotther than Austin.

Since I don't live in either place yet, I can't give a real-life experience opinion, but in the research we've done of the two places in anticipation of our upcoming move, I've found the opposite to be true (at least on paper).

According to Moderator cut: link removed, linking to competitors sites is not allowed, the average July high in San Antonio is 94.9 and Austin is 95.2. Obviously not a big difference, but slightly warmer in Austin. Also, the comfort index (higher=better), which is almost entirely based on summer humidity shows Austin at a 22, but San Antonio is a 23.

Again, take this with a grain of salt, because it's internet research, which pales in comparison to the real world.

A good example is just last Monday when we flew out of Austin ~ the high was about 85ish that day. When we landed in Phoenix at 8:45 pm, it was about 85ish degrees. Now, with our extremely dry climate (our comfort index is a 45 on that same site so one would think it's much more comfortable here if they used that ) and with the sun being down, you would think it would have felt much nicer here than it did in Austin, but it did not.

The air quality here is just so poor that it affects the way it feels to a large degree and it actually felt better in Austin in the sun at the same temperature. On paper, that doesn't make sense, but it was a reality for us less than a week ago.

So there very well may be other real-world factors that a site like that cannot take into account that makes it feel hotter and more humid in San Antonio, but I just thought I'd post what I had come across when doing some research. Just goes to show that no amount of research can really tell you what a place is like - you must go there!

There are negligible differences between SA and ATX. They are both hot as hell in August, humidity is year round...yes although better, it's still present in January.

100* in Austin, still feels like 100* in SA.

The real metric: do doctors advise anyone not to exercise outdoors after 10am because of the heat? yay or nay.

The worst hours to me last summer were between noon and 6-7pm. It was usually cool enough in the morning to be out and about, but once it warmed up, the afternoons can be quite hot!

I am not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV. But I will be staying at a Holiday Inn Express soon!

Exactly. There are no meaningful differences between SA and Austin regarding temperatures and humidity.

My parents live in SA. A few consistently observable differences are with trees. For example the oak trees in SA tend to drop their leaves in the spring 1-2 weeks before they do in Austin. And the oak pollen, which follows - happens a bit earlier in San Antonio.
