Someone suggested in another thread that "architectural residential standards in Austin are very low". I don't think that is true and I'm providing some addresses here of what I think are outstanding architecturally designed middle class homes. Please add any addresses that you can point to.

You can look at images of these in Google maps, by putting the address in search and going to the street level view to see the house. These are not the best images possible but they might help one decide if they would like to drive by and get a better look.

There are even more outstanding examples in expensive neighborhoods, but I have tried to exclude those here as I'm focusing on what middle class families could afford if they wanted one. Most of these examples are still probably upper middle class as few others can afford a custom built home. Many of them are however built in existing central austin neighborhoods, some in disadvantaged neighborhoods that are becoming gentrified.

Is there a way you can post images/links to images of these homes? I really enjoy checking out neat homes. I miss the frontiersman attitude displayed by architects in the 'mid century modern' phase & wish new construction was as bold/innovative...

If the house on Rae Dell is the one I'm thinking of, it was listed for around $750K. A great house but not exactly middle class like your headline states.

There are also older homes that are "residential architectural examples" that might not make it onto a home tour because they were built so long ago and are simply being lived in by current residents and don't really serve to promote the work of current architects. There are several in Barton Hills that meet that criteria, as well as in other parts of the city. You likely wouldn't recognize them if you didn't already know what they were, or get to go inside, but they're there.

Highland Hills is full of architect designed homes. Fabulous. Such wonderful touches inside and I love the way that homes relate to their site, having a connection to the particular setting is something that only architect designed homes have and that mass developments can't touch.

Lovely. Barton Hills is similar.

If you click on those AIA home tour links provided above you can see photos of most of them.

Also the google map street view that I mentioned.

I have not tried to look up the prices of these homes. My saying they were in middle class areas was a goal, not a promise. I suppose you could check the prices at the Travis County tax assessor site.

They are located in neighborhoods where the average home prices are less than $200,000 according to this http://www.austin-chamber.org/DoBusiness/GreaterAustinProfile/Map_ExistingHomePrices.pdf (broken link) . Custom home prices usually are higher then the average price. But $750K is far higher then I would expect. That particular home is West of South Lamar but East of MoPac, and borders on the Barton Creek greenbelt, so it may be higher then what is indicated for South Central Austin.

Edit: TCAD puts that house assesed value at $437,000, the house next door is assessed at $288,000. That area is Barton Hills and some of it is probably a little out of reach, especially those with a Barton Creek view.
