Default Wow!!!

I got my new appraisal in the mail today. We're in Hays county. Apparently my home has increased in value by over $80,000. Are they serious? There are several homes in my neighborhood that have been for sale for more than a year that are listed at less than my new appraisal. I sure hope they've hired a lot of extra people to handle all the protest forms.

Also, we filled out a homestead form in January, but I don't see it on the appraisal. How long before that shows up? Should I contact them about that as well?

Thanks for the link. I just looked up my brother's house, and it looks like no significant change from last year.

See my profile for website URL's with good advice about how to protest your appraisals.

@ maadimom an $80,000 increase is hard to believe unless you made major improvements. I would certainly object to the homestead exemption not showing up.

My appraisal is dropped, but I will still contest it since it is more than what I paid for the house.

More fun.

Ok, we moved in our house last July. From my basic research, I'm finding that there is a cap on the increase or at least there was of 10%. Is this still the case? Cause I just did the math and ours increased 15.28% over last year. I think that is more than excessive, and yes, we will be protesting.

I guess I should add that this was not a new home and that all we have done is add a fence to the property.

I think the 10% limit would normally be attributed to a homestead exemption.
