I think this whole discussion on this topic should be put in a book, it's a hoot!

I wonder what causes people to park in the driveway versus in the garage.

My street is very long, yet there are never more than a handful of cars parked outside down its entire length. The next section of subdivision (in the same development) over has at least one car in at least half of the driveways.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, the HOA of my development sends out letters to people who have more than 2 cars in their driveway or park in the street and recently someone did decide there were enough cars parked outside to come looking for some to steal from.

This is why it is a problem. I'm not saying there shouldn't be neighborhoods that allow you to park outside, but there is definitely a demand for some (for those of us who would prefer it) that require you to use your garage for cars, because it can be an eye-sore, dangerous, and even attract thieves.

That. Altho the former owner of my home didn't have the remote, so I have to go into the house to open my garage. I only park mine in the garage when a big hail storm is a-comin'!

Someone to me of a saying in the UK that Yanks have $1000 worth of junk in their garage while parking a $30,000 car outside. So true.

HA! I love this thread almost as much as the Traders Johns thread! Love it.

There is a funny thing called property rights. You can park in or in front of your garaage. You can put whatever you want in your garage, as long as you don't break city laws. As for parking on the street, again, if you obey city parking laws, then go for it. We do, after all, pay city taxes to keep up those streets.

Our garage is used as storage and a home gym. Also the dogs go through the doggy door which goes through the garage door, having them in the garage, and then they have to go through another doggy door to go to the yard. if we pulled the cars in and out, they couldnt go to the yard.

also (and i know this sounds dumb), but even if i had space, i would probably always park in the garage. i always had this fear that if no cars are in the driveway that buglers would think no one is home and then rob us.

. they say if you seal off the garage it's considered adding sf, so that means $$ at resale if you do it right. I know some guys who've converted their garages to Man Caves but haven't sealed it off yet. just no cars.
