Moving to Austin need help finding good area (Round Rock, Spring: to rent, crime)

I will be moving to Austin and I am looking for an area that I would like to rent. I am an elementary school teacher and would prefer to be in a good school district. I know good is relative but what I mean is a district with a good reputation and NOT in the city itself. I prefer the outskirts but close enough to go there if I choose to. An hour or so outside the city would be fine for me. I am single and do not want to be where there is a lot of crime. I'm from Maryland and I don't know if Austin is anything like DC or Baltimore with regard to crime. I would just like to know some counties or areas either to avoid or look for. Thank you.

Lol....if you are comparing to DC or Baltimore, through a dart at a map of central Texas and go there. The crime will be almost nothing, comparatively speaking

If you are looking for good schools in an affordable neighborhood- look in Cedar Park (Williamson County). Good schools in a more upscale neighborhood- Westlake.

The OP might like many neighborhoods not "in the city" and with good schools:

Leander ISD - large and growing fast. Adding an elementary school almost every year.
Round Rock ISD - established, solid reputation
Lake Travis ISD - smaller, very strong schools
Dripping Springs ISD - smaller still, more rural
