Default New Gorzycki Middle School scheduled for SW Austin this fall...

I just drove by here today and was startled at how large this school is. It sits high on one of the tallest hills in the area, so it is prominent. Very impressive. It looks like it is going to be a wonderful facility. It has been designed by one of the best architectural firms in the City, Graeber, Simmons & Cowan. School mascot is the Tiger, School colors: burnt orange, black and white!.

See the drawings (site plan, elevations, floor plans) of this 3 story school here. The Apple at Work : Safety

Gorzycki Middle School I wonder how one pronounces that? Sounds like a wonderful lady...

Quote:
Diane Gorzycki, the middle school band teacher who recently succumbed to cancer, received by far the most nominations with 279 (for school name). Gorzycki, an Austin native, was 54 when she died on September 30. The middle school band director of 30 years taught first at Porter, then at Bailey. The 250-member James Bowie High School band, including many of Gorzycki's former students, played at her funeral.

Wow! looks very nice. I wonder what the capacity of the school is?

Thanks for the heads up. I rarely go SW so it might be years before I drive by this building, now I'll know what it is!

The name sounds Polish, a bit unusual for Austin but such a great story, and named after an Austin native, can't quibble with that, and what a connection to a middle school.
