LOL. I was completely joking and the guy completely missed it. Then admits that he has tattoos. Yet people avoid him because of his tattoos. Haha. How ridiculous. Nearly everyone I've met in town so far has had a tattoo somewhere.
If you want to be bothered about joining a church, travel more east. People will come up to you at a coffee shop asking if you went to church that day yet, then proceed to tell you how cool their church is. I don't take offense to this other than feel bad for them for being blinded, though it's their choice, free country have at it.
The OP seems like a relatively sad & bitter person.

Also, there have been Christians bothering me about joining their church. That's the problem, differences.
I get attacked by christians who do not see all the body art on me.
They do not get near people with body art.
I don't get Austin a bit. I am still waiting paitent for May 25th to roll around. Or the 24th of 9pm, so I can head there early and not miss the 10:50am May 25th, to head to Greyhound.
@mlasoff, from experience, Californians are hard to deal with. I try to ignore them but they like to bump into you to make eye contact. They are seeking attention all the time. So, don't worry brother, I am with you on this one.

I'm a christian and I don't pester people like that, plus you might be surprised at the number of people I know, including christians, that are covered in tatts.

But you must "fit in with the crowd" and be "cool"... watch a garage band, have a local beer, and talk about nothing. And it's all about who you knoooow. Just like in high school/college

I live 40 miles from Austin. I also own a house in Barton Hills where my son currently lives and I spend time, and my husband owns a business in Austin where he is daily (sometimes 7 days a week). Until a couple of months ago, my daughter also lived in Austin and I spent time there, as well. I also lived in Austin until 12 years ago.
Just in case you were aiming that poorly aimed barb at me. Which, of course, goes to the argument ad hominem ("I don't have anything substantive to argue with so I'll attack the person and maybe that'll distract everybody from my lack of substantive argument").

Seriously? Where ARE you? What crowd? If you mean you need to have friends in order to be happy in Austin, I would agree with that. Just like anywhere.
Sometimes I go out and I look really "cool." Other times I go out looking really crappy (went out for breakfast the other day, when I wasn't feeling well unwashed & in my comfy pants!) It really doesn't seem to matter to anyone except myself.
And WHAT'S "all about who you know?"
I agree that it can be about who you know to get a decent music gig in town. But it's like that everywhere (and better here than most places!). I imagine it's better to know people who can refer you with jobs as well. Just like everywhere.
I moved here without knowing anyone, and I'm doing OK. Granted, I like watching bands, having a local beer, hanging with friends, and sometimes talking about "something" and other times talking about "nothing."
What, exactly, is the difference between "something" and "nothing?" Talking about the government and what we can do to change it, solving world hunger, philosophy vs. how Mindy totally should have won on "Rock Of Love?"
Both have their own merits, heh.

I am told I have lousy taste in beer by friends, so keep that in mind as I recommend the microbrews from Independence Brewing Company.

If diversity is what you're looking for, might I recommend Houston?

Actually, my mother is not from America. My dad is, but not my mother. So it was hard for me. Back in East Valley Phoenix (Tempe) in elementary school, they would get upset at me and my sister for our language and taught us how to speak english.
As for everyone else. Thank you for your support, I will be happy to get away from here soon. I need to get my life back on track instead of dealing with the high school stuff Austin is.

I am not as fond about Houston as other places like Arizona, Flordia, Missouri, Illinois, and Maryland.
I just do not find Houston fun for me or anything. Dallas I heard is sort of better than Houston, but I am not from Texas, so can some people give me the heads up on that?
@hippie, I do not don body art. I don't want any body art on me. I like it though, but it's just not me.
