Default I am moving out of Austin for good

I agree with mlasoff on his views why to move out of Austin. I on the other hand feel that his points are true.

I have similar to different reasons why I want to move out.

1. I do not feel comfortable with strangers here in Austin. I feel better with only a small group I know in Phoenix. And get that not everyone in Phoenix knows me. I only know 10-12 people I grew up with.

2. No one wants to hire, yet I have a resume printed out and ready to be read. But the jobs that will hire on are dead end ones like hamburger fast food joints and I am tired of trying to make minimum wage while in college. I want to make enough for myself to live on my own apartment. Just like mlasoff said in his last thread, "I think the abundance of educated people is taken advatange of by employers who pay, mostly, substandard wages." I am a educated person, but it's like the UT students or people who grew up in Austin knew most of these people that are willing to hire them on. I do not have history with people in Austin, so my chances are slim.

3. There is not any good music to my liking. I am into 80's and 90's rock, I am into old classical late 70's stuff too. From 1976-1984, 1985-1992, and 1993-2001. That's the style of music I like.

4. I miss diners as well. There are plenty in Arizona.

5. Like mlasoff said, there is no diversity in Austin. You have to be a certain religion or a certain standing (conservative or liberal). People in Austin feel that I am missing something because I am not a conservative or a liberal or in a religion which really bothers me a bit. Plus I read that in Austin there are 10.0% blacks here. I am mixed filipino and black and I feel like I am missing something being here in Austin.

6. The politeness is superficial. I agree with mlasoff on this. No one is not that nice. They hide this behind a smile that is fake and not pleasing. Why do they keep smiling at you when you realize that you know they do not mean it. I am the same as mlasoff, I am not a friendly guy when it boils down to stuff such as, "I need money for some hash, can you loan me some, good brother?" Some of the people I notice will say, "You are cool." but in the end something goes bad. I am feeling that most of how the friendly level is in Austin is very superficial. I met some *******s in Minnesota and they tell me they didn't like this part about Austin at all.

7. I do not like humidity with heat.

8. I am really homesick. I do not like some of the blacks here in Austin because they act very false and shady. Like I said earlier, Austin's politeness = superficial.

9. In Phoenix, I can easily catch Greyhound to San Diego, California and spend time on the beach and have fun. I love going to the beach. And Arizona also has snow in some parts. Austin doesn't have snow worth jack ****.

10. The "city" claims it's big. It's too small. It takes 15-18 minutes to drive from Braker Ln to Downtown Austin.

I feel I was missing a lot of things being in Austin. I wish I didn't come back here in 2006. I remembered me and my sister got here in 1993 just to live with our uncle, but realizing he is a misrable ****. I graduated high school here and left in 2002 to Miami and stayed here from 2002-2004. I was treated well there. I just wish that I wouldn't of made the big mistake of coming back to Austin ever again. I had my run here and it wasn't worth it to me.

Please do not comment in flaming remarks, just encourage me on my process moving out. And if I offend anyone in some of these reasons, then i am sorry. But, feel free to explain your side of the story.

Austin like any other city is not for everyone. I grew up in San Antonio and check out the Austin forum from time to time to get a feel for Austin life from the locals because I plan on moving over to Austin if there is a good job opportunity when I finish my Masters. If not, I will stay in San Antonio.
You always have the chance to make a change in your life and it didn't pan out and that's ok.
The cliche quote "It's better to have tried than never to have tried at all."
Good luck!

I don't understand the reason for your post. Are you trying to get people to agree and support your decision to move, or possibly, to talk you out of it?

Only you can decide on where the best place is for you. What you have listed as negatives about Austin, some people see as positives. To each his own.

The only comment I want to make is that it seems you are trying to run away from some bad experiences or memories. I have always found that is better in life to run TOWARDS something rather than run AWAY.

I suggest you make a list of what you are looking for in a city, and then rate whatever city you want to move to (Phoenix?) against that list. Emphasize the positives of that location, and not as a comparison to something else.

You will be better off deciding what you want and doing the research to find the place that offers that. You will know you are in the best location for you.

If you just decide to leave because this place does not suit you, lets try somewhere else, you could be searching forever.

If Phoenix is where you will be most comfortable, I wish you well. I have always liked the city each time I visited.

We are in a recession. Jobs are tough to find anywhere. I happen to really like it here but if it's not for you, then better for you to know that and leave. Good luck to you.

I've only been in Austin for a school year, and while it isn't the same as home, I don't have very much negative to say about it.

I don't really get the point of your post other than to compain about Austin. Almost all of the stuff you say really isn't very accurate. It sounds like most of your issues with Austin are personal issues and not so much issues with the town itself. If that's the case, it's perfectly understandable, but that's no reason to nitpick tiny details you don't like about Austin--particularly when your complaints just aren't factually correct.

If you are looking for people to agree with you, on an Austin-centric forum, you aren't going to get it. Austinites, from everything I've seen, probably love their city more than the residents of any other large city on average. And they have every right to--it's a great town.

Adios Amigos, I'd usually say don't let the door kick you in the ass on the way out but I get in trouble when I do that. I'm trying to change.

And really, I'm not trying to be mean...this is what my friends say to me so I'm just paying it forward.

I do wish you well on your journey.

I will agree with you on the fake part but not in relation to all people. I have had an encounter already and I haven't even been there yet with someone calling me sweetheart while screaming at me. It did seem odd.

Also a reply to iceshots as well. I agree with mlasoff because I see the same things he explained on his last post. He is not the only one who feels that way. Maybe I do not like it because of said fake people. I think everyone who wish me well on moving out. You all are great. Other than that, I do not want no one to talk me out of this because I made my decision final like a month ago. And I will not change it for what is said about Austin being cool. I am sorry if you do not like my said decision to move because of my personal problems, but like I said, there aren't many blacks or mixed races here for me, there aren't many native americans for me here. And recession is not to blame. Please stop using recession as an excuse, some guy I know at ACC Rio Grande got a job just 3 weeks ago at 7-Eleven, you use recession as a excuse because you like Austin, well what if I do not like it. I understand you do, I am not stepping on your toes, but you got to realize, Austin is not for anyone Jennibc. I do not like it much and I will not live here to like it after what I seen. I seen the same thing mlasoff seen. It's sad but true. Thanks for the good luck to the three people who post in here.
