Default Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC)

Has anbody heard anything about about the PEC board 'compensation' since these stories came out? In short, the members received ~30k per year in 'per diem' to attend monthly(?) meetings, except the chairman, who recevied ~180k for per diem and claimed he worked 43 hours/week average...

I haven't heard anything not in the articles but am interested. I am curious that there have not been any other responses.

More info should be coming out soon.

There's a website going up at http://pec4u.org in the next day or two which will have more details, including info about assigning proxies for June 16th's annual meeting to the challengers' representative(s).

There should also soon be another article in one of the Marble Falls papers - River City Times, I think is the name.

I have not been keeping up with the "per diem" perks of the chairman and board members---however, my electrical bill has tripled this year. I do plan to give them a call, I think their compensation for monthly meetings is way out of line. They should be ashamed!

Actually, I think they are under indictment, or maybe the Attorney General is considering indictment. Heard something the other day on the radio. Also said that the co-ops elec. companies were exempt from the deregulation (although a few did decide to join the deregulated market). Btw, Pedernales is the largest elec. co-op in the country.

Is Electric deregulated in Austin? Or does Pedernales primarily cover only certain towns?

Co-ops (such as PEC) are exempt from deregulation, as are governmental providers, such as CPS Energy in SA and AustinEnergy in Austin.

Access to records is a problem with a lot of these non-profits. It has been a problem with PEC and it is a problem in every one of those HOAs. The PEC scandal will hopefully lead to legislation to force all of these organizations to comply with open records and open meetings laws for the benefit of the members instead of ripping off the members.

Also, PEC has shown no interest in encouraging solar energy or other alternative energy sources as Austin does with their green program. They have a monopoly in our area.
