Others can chime in on their favorites, but let me direct you to my favorite Austin restaurant resource. The discussion page on chowhound for Austin.
Austin - Chowhound
Also, you might find the Austin Chronicle's "best of" guide on the web.
My favorite is Uchi, because that's the place that makes my wife happiest. My second favorite is Taqueria Arandas because I like cheap Mexican.

Azul Tequila (Interior Mexican to rival Fonda San Miguel, at a third the price, and pretty darned good TexMex, too). I also second Taqueria Arandas.
Louisiana Longhorn for Louisiana cooking.
Chez Nous for French family cooking.
What do you like to eat? That might help.

Since you have "Cookie" as part of your name, you might like the Cookie Lounge on West Campus (next to Pluckers). They'll make a custom cookie for you while you wait. I definitely recommend it as long as you're ready to spend about $3 or so on a cookie. Pluckers is actually a pretty good local chain as well if you want to catch a game with the family while you eat.

Can mean several different things...best food regardless of prices? Best deal (price vs product)? Or the place that you just really enjoy even though the food may not be exquisite?
For a variety of reasons, we end up at Galaxy Cafe and/or Cypress Grill more than any place else. Both are very laid back, and may not be your thing, or may not even be in your area.

Nutty Brown Cafe
Broken Spoke
Hut's Hamburgers
Dan's Hamburgers
Purely on a taste test, not atmosphere.

Sounds like a fun place to go... don't mind spending $3 on a delicious, fresh, warm and extra large cookie!
