The presence of jobs listed on Craigslist for which you are qualified should not be interpreted as "opportunities" for your fiance. Most job postings on Craigslist Austin produce hundreds of applicants! Generally, the flood of applicants is so great that if you can't respond within the first day (ideally within three hours of posting), your resume will get lost in the firehose stream of responses.

You might be able to find a job easily here but what I am trying to say is that the presence or absence of jobs in your field on Craigslist is NOT a good metric for this information.

good luck!

And with that flood of applicants includes a considerable percentage that will work for far below what the job would pay anywhere else in the country. There are web developers and designers here who pay $8-$10 per hour. Might as well work at Oliver Garden.

I had a friend who employs programmers to do complex VOIP work with matrix that he hires students and recent grads for $10 per hour.

And even worse, you can easily find people on Austin's Craiglist who will design a web site for FREE or for a nominal sum just to build their experience and have examples to show -- so they will stand out a bit in that flood of applicants!

Well normally in TX Houston and Dallas have the most jobs since they're the biggest cities. I don't know about working as a chef but for IT jobs Dallas is the best market in TX. Dallas seems to have a lot more IT jobs than Houston does. So you ought to check out the big D.

Well, as a Texan who moved up to CT 6 years ago, I have to disagree whoheartedly with the view that NYC is prettier than Austin. I get depressed everytime I drive into the City: this is what I think of when I think of NYC: big, dirty, concrete and asphalt. Austin on the other hand has trees, trees, and more trees, rolling hills, a beatiful town lake, parks and more parks.

As for seasons, I don't see what the big deal is. If i can play tennis outdoors on Christmas day when it is 65 degrees and sunny, that is a good thing, imho.

Seasons? You'll miss 'em. I know that right now you are thinking that you could live without snow, but when there are NO seasons, you'll feel really homesick - especially around the holidays. My daughter asked Santa for snow for Christmas - nearly broke my heart.

I've been in Austin for 2 years now and I still don't miss NJ snow one damn bit. The very last thing I did before we got in our SUV for our drive to Austin was throw my snow shovel in the dumpster.....what a rush.

I like these seasons: lots of sun, some sun, not too much sun.

Yeah I agree. I live in Houston and I've met several people here over the years that moved here from NYC, Buffalo, NY, South Bend, IN, etc. They all tell me the same thing. They say they miss the snow like a hole in the head.

Yeah I'm sure a few people from up north will miss the snow but the vast majority of them will say "Good riddance!"
