Oh, I love Bend. My parents used to have a house in Sunriver.

This biggest difference? The nights here are HOT!

Default Bend is nowhere near as liberal as portland

btw, everyone in Austin knows that you can't drive 20 miles in this town in 10 minutes, unless it's 3am on a Tuesday and you're driving 120mph - do your math.

3 minutes for ever mile in rush hour traffic is the norm.
Bend is nowhere near as liberal as portland and is more conservative than beaverton or the close suburbs. I don't think I will be in culture shock due to the fact I went to school in Laramie Wyoming, so with that said how does Round rock really compare on a conservative scale, the higher the better.

I grew up in Bend, currently live in Houston, and have spent quite a bit of time in Austin. You will like it there, if you can get used to higher humidity, no snow, and hotter nights. For two people in the medical field, you can't beat the Houston area for work opportunities, fishing, and economic stability (or cultural and culinary diversity, for that matter), but it's bigger, more humid and very flat. If you want to know more about Houston, let me know, but Austin will probably be a better fit for you.

Thanks for your input, what else can you tell me about the region? How is it doing from a civilians standpoint with the economy? Is the housing market still good, do you have more people coming or going from the area? And how fast would you say? What is there for hobbies and recreation? How are the neighborhoods? Are people generally friendly or do you tend to get a few cold shoulders? Are there many larger chiropractic clinics/spine clinics, you cant see this online.
