We haven't had fire ants in the home, only black ants... which went away easily with a spreader treatment in the yard, some spray on the line going into the house, and some treatment on two mounds. This was last fall - and haven't seen any again... yet.
I have been bitten by fire ants, and that picture is misleading. I think that person must have let their arm get attacked for a long period of time. I have stepped in an area where they jumped on me (not a mound - they were just on a bush or grassy area) and as soon as I felt the first or second bite I got them off. The area itched for some time - but it was nothing NOTHING like that picture. Fire ants are easily avoided, and treated. I consider them more of a nuisance than something to be truely concerned about! |

Does the spraying reduce/eliminate scorpions in the house, or are they impervious?

Someone may disagree with me, but I have never heard of scorpions IN the house, unless you live out on a ranch somewhere. I don't think they are an issue in most of the planned developments... but I could be wrong.
I have never seen one, and my sister who has been here quite some time (14+ yrs) has never seen one either. |

We won't be in a planned development-but not way out in hill country, either.
A few acres on the outskirts of Georgetown or Round Rock or Dripping Springs, I think. |

During the five summers that I stayed with my brother and sister-in-law in Austin so that I could attend graduate school at UT, I never once saw a scorpion.
I did see small scorpions two or three times in or near the bathtub at my grandparents home between Bandera and Kerrville. I don't think anybody was ever stung; I smashed the ones that I found. I don't imagine that scorpions are immune to the insecticide that kills ants and roaches. |

The times I've been stung by fireants, I have gotten blisters like what appears in the photo. Of course, I've never been attacked like that. The most number of blisters I've had on my hands were maybe a dozen or so. |

I think how an individual reacts to fire ant bites varies from person to person, just like with mosquito bites and bee stings. I have heard of people, especially little children, having very adverse reactions to fire ant bites as some people have to bee stings, but I think this is pretty rare. |

The first 2 were immediately after the house was built and the 3rd maybe in the 2nd year. HAvent seen one in 3 or 4 years though. |

We live in River Place, and we have seen scorpions. 2 dead outside our house when we moved in, and one live one in our garage a few months back. We back to preserve land, though, and I think our critter quotient is higher than most!
