I got stung twice in my bed, but that was two years ago. Haven't seen any since. Also, we moved our box spring off the floor, and placed them on the original assembly to hold the box springs up and support them. Now our bed shammy is not on the floor, so there isn't a way for them to easily crawl into the bed. Also, now that you have found one, shake all items that were on the floor, but in an area where it will be easy to dispatch the scorpion.
A neighbor down our street learned to shake out T-shirts the hard way, she was trying to rip it off and got stung at least 5 times. Her young children learned some new words that day too.

True story...my co-worker got a call from a friend of her husband's who had taken him to the ER because he was bitten by a centipede AT WORK! It crawled up his pant leg!! Apparently he worked in a fish bowl type of office at a well-known tech company in Austin and when he jumped up and dropped his trousers for everyone, they noticed all was not well in his office. Normally a quiet, accountant type, he became pretty lively. Her comment was jokingly (after she found out he'd be okay of course) "I hope he had on the new boxers I bought him from the Gap". I think they had to give him a shot of some sort because they determined it was poisonous. Never saw one live personally. Saw plenty of snakes, scorpions, tarantulas and the like though and I have to say, I don't miss seeing that type of stuff in Washington State. You just get cougars and bears on the playground up here.

I learned to peer inside the sleeves of long-sleeved shirts before putting them on, when we lived in a scorpion-infested apartment years ago. I put my arm in the sleeve and thought it was a tag or piece of paper inside, but pulled a rather large scorpion through instead. It ended up upside down on the back of my hand, legs wiggling in the air. It didn't sting me, though.

It looks somewhat like a banana spider.
