I agree, but I have a gut feeling the OP would not be settling in those areas. The nice areas of DFW are very nice and relatively safe. I guess that is pretty much what you are saying.

From what it seems you will probably be a little more suited to Austin. As far about being the non football yankee in dfw...the first thing you are going to learn if you move to Austin or a lot of other southern towns is football exists outside of the NFL

But I seriously hope you find the place that suites you the best.
