"Prosperity gospel" indeed - he's very rich, worth millions of dollars...

Be careful! He teaches a sugar coated Gospel!

I don't see Joel Osteen's messages as being significantly different than Robert Schuller at the Crystal Cathedral or Rick Warren at Saddleback Church out in California. These three guys have preached a positive, encouraging message every time I've heard them. I think we need more of that instead of some preacher brow beating everyone about what they're doing wrong all the time. I don't know about anybody else but I know what I'm doing wrong, I need encouragement, frequently!

Not directed at any one "preacher or denomination or religion" I too would much rather hear messages of faith and hope and good will as opposed to hellfire and damnation and guilt.

I just ran across this saying this week: God does not ask us to be successful, God asks us to be faithful. Use it for what it is worth!

I swear that guy Osteen has had more plastic surgery than my house is worth. He looks like a walking mannequin. The wife is even creepier.

Didn't his wife either get sued or arrested for beating a flight attendant? Anyone remember this?

Nothing came of it. At one point in time I actually liked the senior Osteen, but I'm not fond of Joel really. Different strokes, I guess

Since it's not my experience that the so-called "mainline" protestant denominations preach hellfire, damnation and guilt, I take it that this guy must be drawing from Baptists and other fundamentalist sects. I don't think you'll find a message of condemnation coming from the Episcopal Church, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, or the United Methodist Church, nor from several others I could name. Plus you might actually get serious, scholarly theology from the aforementioned ecclesial communities, as opposed to the prosperity gospel mega-church set.
