If you have found apartments in your price range in that area, wells branch, then it may be a good bet for you.

Apartment ratings are mixes with some pretty negative ones Some people are a little too ..., Recommended, Apr 06, 2006, apartment review of Hunt Club Apartments in Austin, TX

But I've heard people say you can't rely on those. I have seen some for other places that were very positive and had no negative reviews like that, but they were more expensive too.

The Hunt Club apartments look decent enough in Google Maps Satellite view, you can see what the place looks like from the street. but I don't have any direct experience with them. It is in the Wells Branch area which is on the opposite side of town from where I live but other forum posts from people who moved there seem fairly positive about Wells Branch.

If you go to the http://www.city-data.com/city/Texas.html web page you can see lots of detailed demographic information about each city in Texas, many even break it down by zip code. That are is 78728 and 78727 The Most Accurate Free USPS Zip Code Map Anywhere!

Those nether regions of Austin have skimpy bus service, so I wouldn't count on it meeting your needs unless you research it carefully. Austin has never had very good bus service.

Capital Metro is the biggest bus system Capital Metro Transit - Austin, Texas
The University of Texas also has a student shuttle bus system and information on other alternatives, some who hire drivers. PTS: Shuttles

Austin Bergstrom International Airport has a shuttle bus service
https://www.ci.austin.tx.us/austinairport/parking.htm

and a list of transportation alternatives, many of who probably hire drivers. Transportation Options To and From Austin-Bergstrom

When I searched for Round Rock bus system it looks like they may be part of this Capital Area Rapid Transit system http://www.ridecarts.com/

Round Rock is a nice are, has a reputation of being a more family oriented, church going, more conservative then Austin. http://www.city-data.com/city/Round-Rock-Texas.html

Crime rates appear to be lower then where you are coming from, that is true of most of Austin. Austin has some of the lowest violent crime rates in the nation, but is higher then average in property crimes, especially theft. http://malford.ci.austin.tx.us/polic...e/zip_2008.pdf

Diversity? Austin is a pretty liberal place (compared to most of Texas) and easy going, accepting of differences. Here is the racial distribution for that zipcode.

And the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo

And, yep, folks from Central Texas are known to attend all of those.
Also the Taylor rodeo in July.

I wouldn't live there, its WAY up in Wells Branch closer to Round Rock and you can find something more reasonable closer in. I had a friend live there and he told me that car breakins were high(that's anywhere though) and that the management was horrible. That was back in 2005 though so maybe they improved. Also, those apartments are pretty old and I remember that a building or two caught on fire more than once. I would visit for yourself but that location would be the killer for me.

So what are the best parts of Round Rock? I am looking online and all of the apartments look nice even in my price range of 600-650 for a two bedroom.
