The only time I'm surprised anymore is when I see a "Top 10 anything" list and Austin is not on it.

These lists are stupid. They change every year, sometimes drastically. Half the time the writers have never even been to the cities.

I use to live in Bend, OR. If you're the average Joe, the work is not that great and the cost of living is high, but there's plenty to do outside! However, right now, Bend/Deschutes County has one of the highest unemployment rates in Oregon, and the nation for that matter. And housing prices have yet to come down.
