Sorry, I read the links that were posted on this thread, and those were for traffic citations, warrants for the citation and a couple of drug charges. I didn't see the weapons or robberies there, but I don't really know all the codes and abbreviations. A couple even looked like gambling charges? Who knows. I maintain that I don't know the facts about this guy and what happened that night. Again, it's too bad the camera "wasn't working".

I totally agree with you on this one, because had a video existed that showed Sanders raising a weapon to an officer, the City of Austin would be avoiding a huge legal mess, tension in East Austin could calm down a bit, and the whole affair could be put to rest. If a video showed no weapon in Sander's hands, then the officer and city would rightfully pay the price for their actions.

There is however both audio footage as well as footage from a second squad car that were put into evidence. It remains to be seen what will come of that evidence, but I suggest that it will play into the final report. Additionally, a weapon WAS recovered at the scene from the car. If it wasn't Nathaniel's, whose was it? The driver's? The other passenger?

The bottom line is that the evidence of crime exists even without Officer Quintana's car cam video tape. I hope as well as anyone else that the final report is fair and conclusive of whatever REALLY happened that morning.

Grandma or not, anyone can pull a gun or a knife and cause harm, and her behavior didn't align with a rational person.

The cops aren't super human, they're going to make mistakes dealing with people. My advice would be to follow their instructions and not force someone to make those mistakes. If you do, you share a big part of the responsibility for the outcome.

I know only too well that they are not super- human, But I also know from experiene that there are many ways to defuse a situation and not provoke it, he is the professional that carries a gun and tasser and with that comes a huge responsibility anyone an subdue a72 yr old women... A true Police Offier would of handled this alot differently. She refused to comply with his instistance that she sign the ticket, she did not ASSAULT HIM! He could of simply wrote complainant refused to sign... but he let his ego and authority get to him and instead of defusing the situation he made it worse

Seriously, no offense intended, but I'm not sure the infrastructure can support all the people moving here. Its going to be a problem, lack of adequatly trained law enforcement officers appears to be one of those we might expect more of. In addition to a housing shortage.

For the most part this unfortunate incident is rare in the area. All the more reason we are being so critical of it.

I think that there lots of questions that need to be answered. The gun might have been Nathaniels. He might have attacked the officers. The car might have been used in a crime. Too many mights for my taste. I'm going to wait and see and remember that in the US we are innocent until proven guilty!

I'm happy to agree with you here, isn't it amazing how the average citizen is expected to have more self control, and to remain cool and calm under pressure then the law enforcement officer was in this situation.

Honestly, imagining myself in this situation, I would have been giggling and laughing as I gently used my superior size to guided this spunky old lady back away from the roadway. Then I'd tell her, 'M'am, lets call your (husband, son, daughter) and have them come help you get back home".

I would not be inclined to pull a weapon on someone who wasn't clearly a threat.

But in every case the guilty, were guilty from the get-go. It just took time for the wheels of justice to substantiate it.

And often times the guilty are let go, because it isn't always easy to "prove". That does not make them innocent.

I say CptnRn had it right when he said this:
