My family has been in Austin for two years now, and we love it. I am about ready to return to work (as a special ed. teacher), but I cannot find appropriate daycare for my children because they both have mild autism. I have checked out Sammy's House, and I would highly recommend it, except that it's not convenient for us (we are southwest).
Also, one son is in PPCD until 11 am, and the other is in first grade until 2:45. So they don't really need full-time care...
I'm thinking about starting a home-based daycare myself just to fill this need!
Please let me know if there is anyone out there with some background with kids with special needs. Thanks.

I am not from there, but check out www.feat-austin.org/index.htm , since they may have resources for you regarding ABA programs for your children.

It's been a few months and I am responding to my own post! After trying unsuccessfully to find a great daycare setting for my two sons, I have started a family daycare in my home. If you are looking for daycare or preschool, for kids with delays or typical kids, check out my web site: Alena's Childcare and Preschool - Home

Kudos to you for starting this. With your educational background and experiences parenting children on the spectrum, your facility will be in high demand.

The odds are pretty slim that both children would have autism. Are you sure it's not just confirmation bias?

Odds are higher of a sibling having an autism spectrum disorder when another sibling is on the spectrum. There is a genetic component.
