Thank you SO much for your comment. I can't agree with you more! I'm sure this isn't entirely the case in Steiner. I'm sure there are great parents here, but I have seen too many times where kids roam free without any parental guardian causing havoc.

As for that, my neighbor has been on the block longer than we have and talked to their parents about it. All their parents said was, "We'll do our best to watch him. Thanks." We haven't seen them throw any rocks recently, but still see them spraying passing cars with the water hose and run in front of cars trying to pull in to their driveway (as if he was a cop, telling the car to stop).

Just a few words of advice to the OP: you just have to be more careful when you drive around SR, because the we have tons of kids around. I've seen this kid almost get hit 2-3 times in the last month!

This is why people move out to the suburbs - they can get away with having "latchkey kids". They know if they lived in the city and tried to pass off bad parenting like that, their kids would end up in real gangs. I live in the city in a relatively expensive house, and I live around people Steiner ranch would consider "undesirable" but the difference is that I'm involved with my kids lives, and I don't let them pull that kind of ****. I see it all the time, their kids are out in public tearing up stuff, while they hang out a 100 feet away drinking cheap zinfindal and flapping gums pretending their kids don't exist.

There are couple of eating options within steiner. Lakeside pizza & grill, Fion pub, the thai place etc. The new steakhouse opened is one of the best steakhouses in Austin. Oasis is only couple of miles away from Steiner entrance.
Yeah...but i hear you.... the options are limited nearby.

I bet there are more stay at home mom's in the suburbs than the city. You are generalizing way too much.... again.

of course, that's the worst part about it - who do you think I was talking about?

(from my previous post) "they hang out a 100 feet away drinking cheap zinfindal and flapping gums pretending their kids don't exist"

Right! They're drinking midpriced zinfandels.

jobert has a point. Again, don't get me wrong, not ALL the parents around here are like that, but there so many kids that run around and leave their bikes in the street where traffic can barely get by. And there are no parents around to even talk to about it. When I leave for work in the morning, there are toys, bikes, and balls everywhere. I don't even know what the kids' parents look like. I see their yard crew more than I see them.

My neighbors talked to them a few times now and said things get better, but than go back to what it once was in a few weeks. Sad...

Again, don't get me wrong, I love this community and I really don't mind the kids around here at all. Some are even kind enough to wave while I'm coming home from work. Just a few bad apples...

Sounds like a few bad eggs. My kids play in the street with their bikes. We live on a cul-de-sac. We just sit on the porch and watch them. When they come in, the bikes or whatever comes in. My wife is a stay at home mom and she is working with the kids not drinking. I know I could not handle her job.
