Yes, I have been to Collierville...very cute town. I think Georgetown is similar in feeling, though I have only spent 3 days there thus far!! Yes, we do have a house to sell before we can move. We acutally just got it on the market last week. Things are slow here, but we are hoping for the best!!!! I would love to be moved by the beginning of the school year, but that is seeming pretty impossible at this point...

A couple of people asked about the elementary school age splits. I may be wrong, but it's my (and all my mommy friends) understanding the age split is for safety and to prevent bullying. Would you really want 5th graders on the same bus as your kindergartner? I personally think it's a good idea. OH, and though my daughter did not attend Frost - I know several families who did and they were quite pleased with the teachers particularly. Good luck in your house hunting! My husband has been transferred to the Dallas area and I am just crushed that we have to leave Georgetown after 15 years. I'll try to be happy and not jealous of all you moving here.

The bullying point does make sense.... But just a question: why are the other schools in the area still K-5? is the bullying an issue only in the Frost attendance zone? I did see on the school report card that nearly half the school population qualifies for a free or reduced lunch... Considering what we are paying for a home in berry Creek, that is pretty shocking. Sorry if this is hijacking your thread!!

Well, I do know that there are other elemen. schools in Gtown that are split. It's not just Frost.
Annie Purl, and Carver are as well. I looked up the stats and the economically disadvantaged at Frost is 47% which is lower than the state average of 55% per school. Have you looked at greatschools.net?
It gives all the stats. Frost is rated excellent for safety and discipline as well. I don't think you'd have much to worry about. In addition you could always check out ZION private school. They have very small classroom sizes and are academically intense. Sorry if I am adding to the hijackng by answering! LOL

Can someone tell me a little about the various neighborhoods in Georgetown? We like established neighborhoods with big trees - houses that are 20-30 years old are fine with us. Katy Crossing, Reata Trails, Gabriel Heights, Parkview Estates, Thousand Oaks, Quail Meadow....does anyone have any recommendations?
Thanks so much.

Serenada is a neighborhood you should check into. Also North Lake.
What are your other requirements?

Serenada looks like a beautiful area, based on the homes I see online. It's a bit close to the Georgetown airport - is that a busy little airport? Are there any noise issues? North Lake looks nice too, and a bit far out of town, which might be refreshing (since we live in a city of 1.2 million people right now).
We are looking for a home in a good neighborhood, in the 200K or less range. Would also be open to a smaller home (140K range) that we could modify later if we wanted. The area is probably most important.
Thanks for your help!

sounds like the same desires we have, old trees, older homes with established streets and parks.

I grew up in the Serenada area, and it is still one of the standards by which I unconsciously judge other neighborhoods. The airport is pretty close, but (unless it has changed very significantly) it is generally used for light prop aircraft, although there was the occasional turbo-prop. Anyway, noise was not a big issue unless you are super-sensitive to it.
North lake is a bit further out, so you have to decide if you want to drive that far. IT was a 'new' area when I was there (pre-Sun City), so I am not sure if Sun City traffic has any significant effect on that drive or not.

We live near the Marine Corps Air Station in San Diego now, with fighter jets flying over, so I doubt the noice of a small airport would bother us, but I was just checking. We've been to the Austin/Pflugerville/Round Rock area several times to check out housing, but next mo. we're coming again to check out Georgetown, and so I appreciate the info.
Are there any areas in GT that we should probably not consider?
