Looking for a place for a casual family and friends celebration (celebrating the completion of some friends' long years of medical training).

Could be a park shelter (although we're already aware of our options), or a local texmex or bbq or other restaurant.

Something casual and that would allow us to bring alcohol, or would have it for sale on the cheap.

Any ideas?

Two places when you said "bring your own alcohol" came to mind - Rosies Tamale House and Salt Lick BBQ. Well, and you did say Tex-Mex or BBQ too! Anyway, both are good and allow you to bring your own beer.

Edited to add...you can bring any kind of alcohol to Rosie's but I think you might be limited to beer at Salt Lick.

Rosies Tamale House is awful. The food could have come from a TV dinner. Only the tamales are worth eating. The atmosphere is......cheap.

Verdes restaurant on Hamilton Road has a great covered outdoor patio they will rent to you. But I don't know about cheap drinks and they probably won't let you bring it in. The food is good though.

I know you can bring wine to the salt lick. We always bring a pitcher of margaritas and they've never said that we couldn't but I don't know whether it is actually permitted. But I would say the Salt Lick in Driftwood is the place to go. They take reservations for big parties, call its administrative offices and they will give you the details. Note that the one up in Round Rock serves liquor so you cannot bring your own.
