Hello! I'm looking to get a place of my own and my budget is between 150-160k. I like the 78717 Palmer area but the prices are outside my range. 78729 around the Freescale area looks affordable and quiet. Anyone know anything about this area? The school district is RR_ISD which is a plus for me but I'm concerned about the noise level and privacy of the area. Any comments or suggestions?

That has some good and bad areas in it. The specific street/block can make a big difference, and there are areas that are high percentage renters (which translates into some 'seedier' looking areas. Very similar, if I recall, to parts 78727 (Millwood), so you might think of looking there, too. The schools are AISD, but Summit elementary is very good. You would have to check Jr. Highs, and HS, but if they feed into Murchison and Anderson, it is not a bad school chain at all.

The areas that have a high concentration of renters I'd like to stay away from. Does anyone know anything about the Cassandra sub-division off of West Palmer?

This is one of my favorite inexpensive, yet close in areas. It is getting completely surrounded by more expensive development in all directions. There is so much commercial development along 183 and it has easy access to everything (I35, mopac and 183). Even if there are a lot of renters there now, I think it will shift to owners pretty fast as the 183 cutoff for the commute is around oak knoll. McNeil etc still takes a hit during rush hour but it is way better than going all way way to lake line (cedar park/leander).
