What's the name of the place (although it shouldn't be hard to find )? My parents live out that way, but I'm a little out of touch with Schwertner.
I've been to Lois and Jerry's in Bartlett and they have a good burger. I've read (Kelso) and heard that the waitress there can be a bit "gruff" to customers, so if anyone goes, don't take it personally. However, when I took my class there after a field trip she was absolutely wonderful to us.

Go with that. Welcome...it's cool that you're doing this.

I believe it's the Crossroads Cafe, but it's the one at the intersection in Schwertner. (My daughter laughed at me once when, at a horse show, I was giving someone directions. I said, "head east on 487, and when you get to Schwertner, turn right. Those were GOOD directions!)
I've eaten at Lois & Jerry's once in the last 12 years, right after we moved here, enjoyed it, but every time I've gone back by since they've been closed. I thought they were out of business!

A lot of Texans feel that Californians are waging a war on their state.

Pretty telling when you can say it's at the intersection in Schwertner, and I know exactly where you mean. We should tell newcomers it's pronounced sweat*ner, I suppose.
I'll have to ask about Lois and Jerry's. I haven't heard that it closed, I hope it hasn't. I wish Bartlett would undergo a revival. Some neat buildings there.
