Default Highlands at Crystal Falls

Hello, we are building in the Highlands at Crystal Falls. I wonder, now that it has been a while, have you had any trouble with scorpions, tarantulas, or snakes?? I am a bit worried...

thanks!!

My 1st and 4th grader go to Winkley and they are really enjoying it. My 6th grader goes to Running Brushy and then she will (as of now) go to Leander HS. I really like the staff at the middle school-- they've been great! I've heard no complaints from my kids and they would definitely speak up if something were going on that they didn't like!
I know some people think Leander is the end of the earth but it really isn't My husband works in SW Austin and it takes him 32-35 minutes to get to work at 5:30 am. Rush hour, of course, will take longer.
Lakeline Mall is nice enough-- about 10-ish minutes away but we just went to Barton Creek yesterday and I think that is where I will go to do any serious shopping since they have the only Nordstrom in Austin
No culture shock for us -- but we're originally from small town America so we're used to it. 99% of the people are nice as can be and you can pretty well start a conversation with anyone.
We haven't gone through a summer yet but with a pool and numerous water parks and 2 big AC units, we will be fine
And no, so far, I haven't seen any snakes, trantulas or scorpions but I'm sure my day is coming!!

Kayman-- how funny that you are building here.
As it turns out, my husbands job SUCKS and so we are 90% moving back to Washington State. So if you see a house for sale next week, that's me.
If his job didn't bite so bad, we would def. be staying--- but it's no fun when you have an unhappy DH

Are you building with Perry, Mercedes, D. Weekly or Drees?

Ok-- we've only had 1 snake in our driveway and it was non-poisonous. I'm sure it came over to visit (ewww!) because they were putting in foundations on either side of us. I think we've had 4-5 scorpions in the house--- but no one has gotten stung. I just scoop them up and flush them down the drain. We do get exterminated every other month but scorpions are very resistant to it.

Welcome

May I ask? What is a "DH"? I get that it's a husband, but I don't understand what it stands for. I've seen it all over the board.

Heh, I finally figured out the PNW means "Pacific North West".

It stands for Dear Husband.
If you're super-cute then it stands for Dear Hubby.
I also didn't know this til I got on this forum.

My husband would never speak to me again if I called him my "hubby". And I couldn't blame him.

We just moved from OC (Mission Viejo) two months ago. If you ask me, Austin hasn't had a "real" summer this year so we have been spoiled. The rain is awesome...not at all like So. Calif. rain which is cold. I've managed to convince my kids that walking in the rain is pretty cool.

From what I gather here on the board, summers will mostly be in the 90s with some stretches in the 100s. Slightly humid, so it feels less like walking into an oven (less in comparison to a desert area like Las Vegas).

I don't know much about Leander at all, but I hear that the school disctrict is great.

Oh...I forgot to mention. We were really excited to find that there's a Wahoos Fish Taco in Austin. We came upon it by accident when we had friends visiting and we all wandered around downtown on a Sunday night trying to find a place to eat. And there was much joy! Gotta love the Maui bowls.

Round Rock and Austin ISD not as good.
Huh? This is the first time I have ever heard someone say Round Rock didn't have good schools, and used it in conjunction with AISD schools!

jennyb315 - didn't you JUST move here?? Sorry to hear things didn't work out with your husbands job, but can he not find another one here, or are there other reasons?

Mmmmmmaui bowl!

Carne asada marinated in teriyaki sauce served with ahi rice, salsa and black beans or spicy cajun white beans. Ask for some limes to squeeze over the meat.
