dead end jobs in austin.
Hello everyone I was originally planning on moving to Austin in about 2-3 years once I got out of school but I don't really want to wait any longer. I just graduated with my AA in accounting and instead of going to a cal state in CA I'll just attend a university in Austin (probably UTA).
The transition would be relativity easy for me. The only problem I might face is getting a job. I am not looking for anything spectacular. Literally, I'll need a job doing anything for any pay even minimum wage. Hotel room cleaning, fast food worker, janitor, stock boy, ANYTHING.
I do have money saved up about 25k but I don't want to be burning 500-700 per month in expenses while I sit around unemployed.
So how difficult is it to get a dead end job in Austin? I know the economy is bad but not as bad as CA. In CA the unemployment rate is nearly 12%.
Any advice?

If you have an AA in Accounting, you should be able to find a job. I would contact a temp agency like Accountemps or something like it. It will also be good for your resume should you continue on the accounting track. Just a side note...UT Austin is a really competitive school to get into and its accounting program is generally regarded as one of the best in the country. You will need to have residency for a year before you can apply for instate tuition.

It seems Austin specializes in dead-end jobs. You should have no problem.

I see job ads all the time for what you're looking for...something to support yourself until you get an advanced degree. Burger joints, etc. at $12 an hour (see Wally's Burgers, for one of many).
Although costs of doing business have climbed, Austin restaurants I know and do business with are busy.
