Wheres the beef?
Are there local markets in the area besides the chains that sell beef by the bulk to stock freezers?

You might give a call to the Taylor Meat Market. Also you might try asking some of the meat vendors at any of the Farmers markets. They may be willing to work a deal with you.

Google is your friend. There's many ranches in Texas that will ship natural grass-fed beef to your door. It's generally a very good deal if you've got room to store it and have the time to defrost it.

Taylor Meat Market was the first place that came to mind, but you also might want to check Florence High School Meat Market or Ross Farm.

Actually, Google is not my friend, (tried to get Gmail and I won't talk about that here). Also, to me nothing compares to hearing what folks have to say that live in the area. Some of the people here have lived in and/or around Austin for years and have experience. I kinda appreciate their willingness to share. Thank you.

Just some ideas. I have no experience with these places. Maybe someone here does and can give reviews.
In Austin, sells a side of beef:
Wholesale Meats, Butcher Shop, Wild Game Processing, Austin Texas Johnny G's Butcher
Directory of grass-fed producers. Coyote Creek farms is in Elgin:
Texas - Eat Wild
8 miles from San Antonio, meat is vacuum-packed and frozen for you. It comes in a side of beef or in mixed bundles:
Meat Market, Beef, Buffalo, Elk, & Turkey Jerky
We used to have Hunt's meat market in Austin, that's where my mom shopped. But I don't think it's there anymore, or at least I can't find it listed.

That's why I recommended the ones I did. We've not only bought meat at Taylor Meat, but used them to slaughter for us. Ross Farms has excellent beef (grass fed). I haven't personally purchased from Florence High School Meat Market (slaps self on hand, should support it!), but I've heard very good things from neighbors who have.

I get meat from Richardson Farms (Rockdale). They are at sunset valley farmer's market on Saturday's or you can call and pick up at the farm. Chicken-pork-beef. Sausage is delicious. Got the bacon once but I don't know how to cure it (yet !) so it ended up going to the dogs.
Here's a link to their website:

Johnny G's is a great local butcher - I purchase beef from him each month. He's also a great deer processor.

Our friends in Pflugerville have gotten things at Johnny G's and are happy with them as well. My BIL uses Taylor meat market.
