I don't think I have ever seen either in any place in Texas I have been. Don't think that is an Austin thing.

I thought there used to be Checkers in Austin? When I lived there, and then they closed. Or maybe I am just losing it.

Checker's was around Houston for a while. They pulled out of my town--probably couldn't compete with Sonic just down the road.

There's a Krystal in Spring, TX. Tried it and immediately disliked it. I think steamed burgers are just a tasteless novelty.

I don't really care about the lack of a few national chains. It's nice to have some decent local chains that flip a damn good burger like Dan's or Hill-berts for an occasional outing.

Ah, yes, Hill-berts! I used to go by there regularly when they were on Lamar just south of 34th, was heartbroken when they closed, only to drive by and see them on Burnet the other day! Woo hoo!

Dan's is great for sit down, but they don't have a drive through, do they?

The Dan's on N Lamar does not.

Hill-berts moved down the road from that old 34th location. They're off 35th street by the Randall's.

Really? Because I saw them on Burnet in the shopping center up by Dallas. Do they have two locations now? (Gonna have to go get me a chocolate malt!)

Hey! They have 3! (But they're calling the Burnet Road one the "original", when the original was on 34th Street - ate there for decades - and something else was in the Burnet Road location.)

I for one think that there are too many fast food chains in Austin. Remember, Keep Austin Weird. Not make Austin generic city USA.
