We don't have any water restrictions yet, but I think we should. I've never understood waiting til the reservoir is super low to start that. We're barely watering anyway. Just enough to keep the grass alive in front and we gave up in back. On the bright side, we've only mowed the yard ONCE all year. Crazy.

I'm hoping water isn't an issue- I planned on laying some sod next month or so (selling). How long (many days/weeks) do you have to water it everyday until it is established (full sun no shade)?

The rest of our yard is looking great under the shade trees, just that one side area looks pitiful. even with only watering once a week. thank goodness we got RAIN!

Sorry, you might not be able to do that. UNLESS YOU WATER BY HAND.

The current watering restrictions, allowing only 2 days per week, will remain in effect until Sept. 30th. Unless you can get a variance.

I'm putting in a new landscape. Do these restrictions apply to me?

Commercial customers who are installing new landscapes may apply for a temporary variance from the watering restrictions by submitting a Notification of New Landscape form (pdf) at least one day prior to installation. Variances will not be granted for seasonal color beds or overseeding.

What other situations are eligible for variances?

In very limited circumstances, we may be able to grant variances from either the watering day and/or time of day restrictions. Variance forms are available for download. http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/watercon/variance.htm Please note that variances will not be granted for overseeding lawns, conflicts with trash pickup, or lawn maintenance schedules.

New Landscapes

You may apply for a variance from the City's watering restrictions if you are installing a new landscape:

at the time of construction of a new house, multi-family or commercial building,
as part of a governmental entity’s capital improvement project, or
which alters more than one-half of an existing landscape.
Request for Variance for Irrigation of New Landscapes
Note: This variance is not appropriate for seasonal color beds or temporary grass installation (overseeding).

Nah, not that important, I'll just wait until Oct. then. If sod wasn't the most economical solution, I'd xeriscape the area before sod. but with the intention of selling doesn't make any sense. I wish the city of austin/round rock would give incentives and such to do (selling or not).

To save even more water, I've been using the fish tank water when I do tank changes to water the flowers (once a month sometimes more). Starting to get really creative since I LOVE my water supply so much

Also let the pool go as far as possible before filling it up just enough to keep it from 'bubbling'

prayin- more rain more rain!

In regard to your swimming pool, I read something about San Antonio water restrictions the other day that mentioned you can significantly reduce the evaporation from your swimming pool by keeping a lot of its surface covered by floats, air matteresses, that sort of thing. So throw all the floaty toys in the pool when you are not using it.
