Help! I Need to Find an Apartment w/ a 3 month lease!
First of all thanks to everyone on this forum, it seems very helpful for newcomers such as myself.
Does anyone know of places that will possibly give me a three month lease in Austin?
Ideally a studio or 1 bedroom at $600 or under. Let me know what you think!
edit: Most places seem to charge 25% extra, which comes out to a pretty ridiculous rent considering the apartments they are leasing. I have good credit and referrals, and love to keep my apartments clean. So, if anyone out there knows someone who would like to have me as a resident for a short term, please let me know!

That's pretty tough to come by anywhere close to Austin. You could try to find a studio around the UT campus, but even that would be lucky.
Good luck, and welcome to Austin!

Criaigs list is the place I found for the same...but my place was 720 a month......and I had to show prove of funds per a years rent in the bank just to show I could renew the lease when it came up...If you are asking if a major complex would allow a renter to sublease it on those terms, I say very doubtful.....all will charge extra for short-term, per the inconvenience of having to find tenants again shortly, with no guarantee that you will renew for 12 months.....
I'm reading between the lines that you are doing that because you have no funds to carry you through a 12-month conventional, or the DP, and have no job lined up, which explains the hesitancy to commit.....those are issues extraneous to the rent issue, and I don't recommend to anyone moving to Austin with just enough cash to hope someone will extend a cheap 600 dollar/month lease with no terms added for inconveniencing landlords....
Guess what I'm saying is there is no such thing as a free lunch, even in Austin..

From a landlords perspective, it is a lot of hassle to take on a new tenant for only 3 months, then have to do it all over again. Not knowing how long the apartment will be vacant before you get a new tenant. Not knowing how much trouble or damage the 3 month tenant will cause. I'm not sure I'd do it for only 25% more and if I did I'd want a huge deposite.
You might try someplace that offers weekly rates like:

or

You might also be able to find someone to rent you a room, like a coop dormitory around the UT campus.

I looked on the apartment MLS and found 26 places that are under $650 with 3 month lease or less.

they were all over - a few near Arboretum, some down south, a few in Round Rock, a few near Lakeline. I were surprised there were so many.

Sounds like the bad economy is affecting the mega-complexes.....they are built for growth...when things tighten, and people have trouble paying rent, they have a tendency to lose tenants...and perhaps get desperate with the 3-month deals..
