Affordable custom framing in Austin?
Any recommendations for custom framing of artwork? I need to frame 3-4 pieces of my kids' artwork. Lots of places - but most "look" and "sound" like it might cost $250 per piece.

Yep, I purchased all the materials AND a sliding compound miter saw for less than the 'half off' custom framing price my darling got at a chain framing store(for one large piece). New toy for me and many compliments on the frame!

Lots of kids art tends to be in standard sizes and it is easy to buy a quality mat and pre-made frame and frame it yourself. I've done that for less than $15. If it truly needs to be custom-framed, then I'd suggest Jerry's Artarama: they have a wide variety of choices in every price level and can help you stay within budget. Jerry's is also where I buy my art supplies as well as mats and frames.
They have a location at I-35 and 290 on the southbound frontage road. I know many professional artists that use them for their own art.

I know you requested custom framing...but have you considered going garage saling? You'd be surprised what you can pick up for a dollar or two. Simply remove the original art and put your child's artwork in its place

This art is rather more serious art - all were finalists at the high school state level - One was a winner, two were just below that. We want to highlight these pieces in our home.
We are getting one done at Aarons in the Brodie area. They have some package deals, still custom. We'll see how it turns out before we do the others. Thanks for the suggestions.

I have a piece that was made by an art professor at UT, Jerry's Artarama framed it and when I told the professor's spouse, she said, "that's where we go!" So they can do serious stuff.
Another place to look would be Artworks on W. 6th street. Great people and great frames.
