This request was buried in another thread so I thought I would bring it up front.

Does anyone have any up to date information on the Alamo Drafthouse that was planned for Circle C?

Is it still going on? Was it cancelled? Have they broke ground?

Thanks

It's not cancelled according to the Stratus Property website. It's probably just delayed due to the economy.

is that one going to be a "real" Alamo (Original Alamo) or one of the ones that were sold?

Default Circle C Alamo

This is owned by the same company that owns Lake Creek and the Houston Alamo's.

Simplegirl70 where did you get that info? I'm not doubting you at all, I was suspecting that too.. But a friend of mine said it was going to be an original Alamo. Also, I'm wondering also what the status is. Doesn't seem like they've broken any ground. The demand is certainly there though.

From what I understand, Tim League only retained rights to the 3 Drafthouses in Austin. Any others are franchises. When he sold, he sold everything - name, brand, etc.

From what I've heard, the same developer is also constructing the W downtown and is out of money. One of the big investors in the W backed out so they're looking for more $$$.

I'm an Alamo frequent flyer (at all locations), and when I was at the Lakecreek a few weeks ago (standing in line for a movie), I actually got a chance to talk to the general manager. He said plans are still on for the Circle C location and that he is actually going to go over there to handle training once it's complete. We didn't ask him when construction is scheduled to start/finish, but he referenced it as though it was soon.

I sort of hang with an architect crowd, so I know A LOT of projects are on hold and/or seriously slowed down by ecnomic issues, so I think the delay is to be expected.

Here's what they said on the Statesman today. Not sure what to make of it. I really hope they open it up at Circle C! IMHO, it would make the place! I love Alamo Drafthouse!

"The new group will not add locations in Austin. Aside from the three theaters the Leagues own, Martin's company runs a fourth Austin location, the Alamo Drafthouse Lake Creek on Research Boulevard near Texas 45.

A proposed fifth location at Slaughter Lane and South MoPac Boulevard has been delayed, and Martin declined to elaborate on the timing. But the development project is in the permitting stage, said Laurie Swan, vice president of developer Stratus Properties Inc. "
