Lots of good information on Lago Vista:

If you are looking for a slower, relaxed pace of life by Lake Travis with 10 community parks included, community pool, fitness center, several outdoor pavillions. recreational/community center, covered fishing shack, several boat ramps (all in the HOA $125 annual fee), and two 18 hole golf courses.
Low crime and easy commute into Austin - 1431 to 183 to 35 or Mopac gets you into downtown area within 45 minutes. $200k isn't going to buy you a home with land; but the standard lot sizes are .22 acre more generous than most subdivisions. It will buy you a nice home though and no need for a swimming pool, you'll have the lake to play in and community pool; there's also a city pool too and tennis courts.

Schnaiy, I've had Lago Vista on "my list" (along with New Braunfels, Boerne & Georgetown) for the reasons you list.
I agree with you on the commute (especially if you're not going ALL the way downtown & if you're able to zig when others are zagging). A couple of questions if you don't mind:
- How many tennis courts in LV & how (in your opinion) are the golf courses?
- Will it ever have a town center that will seem like a town center. (I love the fact that NB, GT & Boerne are county seats with real town centers. I didn't get that feel when visiting LV.)
- You mention the schools are better this year. Do you have the scores (average or collective) for last year (for the ES, MS, & HS)?......or a link where i can look at them?
- Any Asians out there....my kid is Korean & it would be nice if he wasn't a token.

Home They have youth clinics at Bar K Tennis courts. There are also tennis courts at Lago Vista High School and then there are private courts for some housing developments.
2. The two golf courses in Lago Vista - one is city owned at the Bar K park area and the other is privately owned and under renovation in the Highland Lake Estates. I've played on the Highland Lake course - it's fun, challenging with natural hilly areas and scenic and well maintained. You can play 18 holes for $38 including the golf cart and a big hamburger and drink (and if you get rained out - like we did they let you come back again to play for free). The city course is right on the lake and more flat.
3. Here is a link to the Lago Vista Property Owners Association
Lago Vista Property
It lists all of the facilities, the parks, the marinas, pavillions, swimming pool and even lists community clubs which use the facilities alongwith their contacts.
4. I don't know when you last visited Lago, in the last year they've had more commercial premises built on the 1431, which is creating more of a shopping center with the usual services you would find in a town. The biggest drawback is there is not much to choose for restaurant eating - a couple of bars which also provide sit down meals (The Deli Works and BAMS and Remingtons; Tugs BBQ and DDs Tacos for breakfast). There's a couple of coffee shops and a Dominos and Sonic and that's it for eat out.
Where City Hall is located, is pretty dead - couldn't really call it a town center. The only two banks in town are State Security and another small one - I drive 20 minutes to the nearest Bank Of America in Cedar Park.
5, Lago Vista High School and Elementary are EXEMPLARY and the Middle School was very close to achieving that with RECOGNIZED. The students had close to 100 percent passing in all TAKS subjects (including SPED). Go to Lago Vista ISD website, they are usually pretty good at showing their stats. www.lagovistaisd.net.
6. While there's not much ethnic diversity - it is changing in Lago - there's now a handful of middle class African Americans; increasing Hispanic population and no, I taught at the High School and I don't recall any Asian students. It may different in the lower grades. Just keep in mind this is a small district with only one elementary, middle school and high school. The student prep for college is good with dual credit classes, AP classes and seniors can go to ACC and expand the college courses they have before they graduate high school.

Thanks for all the info.
I like the idea of a smaller graduating classes. & i think that virtually everywhere it's the MS that lags behind in improving test scores. I had noticed that LV schools had been trending up the past 3 years....which was one (of many) reasons for my interest in LV.
Now, most importantly......how are the breakfast tacos at DDs....& how is the BBQ at Tugs?
