So me and two of my friends are bored with central Pennsylvania and are looking to start an adventure in a new place. Nightlife and a younger crowd would be nice. Just wondering what areas you would recommend.

ha!

When I read the OP, my first thought was "New York City" (in that faux texas accent of the old Pace Picante ads, remember that?)

I think that's what they really want, they just want it cheaper. We are many many things in Austin but a cut-rate NYC . . . no.

South Austin is a great vicinity to live for young single professionals, your close enough to all the action (10 minutes) yet far enough away that you can enjoy a laidback lifestyle. Traffic isn't great in the morning if you are working downtown, however it really depends what lifestyle you're looking for. If you want to be in all the action downtown is the place to be as there are brand new condos and tons of live music, but if you're going to complain about music keeping you up at night, don't move down there, that's what this city was based on.

A good place for you three-some here would be 6th street (for foreplay) and then the county jail about 2 blocks north. Excellent A/C there (so I've heard).

Please take plenty of cash with you. 50K or more would be nice. Austin welcomes you (I mean the cash).

OP - Really depends on your budget. 3-bed downtown? Expect $1000/month, per person. Every once in awhile there might be some better deals. Say the Railyard on 4th. Monarch used to run crazy deals. Not anymore, though. All the corporate joints (AMLI, Gables, etc...) are going to cost you.

What's your budget?

What about buying downtown? Are there any condos/lofts that are somewhat centrally located that are priced reasonably?
