Court ordered community service question?
Hi y'all, My son got into some trouble at school last year just before school let out. He did his time at the alternative school, went to court and has to complete some community service work. The court gave us a list of places to complete his community service but most of them are for kids over 16. He is 15 and has to have it done by November. Any suggestions on places to complete his court ordered community service in the Southwest Austin Area?
Any help would be great.
Thanks.....

Special Olympics often is involved in events that need help. You might check with them. I don't know if they qualify for your son. But my kids have worked with Special Olympics to help with their National Honor Society requirements.
I think Habitat for Humanity is another good one - but you might have to be there with him.

Check the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center. I know they have volunteer programs, and they also support a lot of Eagle Scout projects, which he might be able to work on.

I had the same problem as you. The only place we had any luck was a local church. The contact person there had him go to service for 1 hour every Sunday and gave him 2 hours of time served.
It's not much and it's slow going but better than nothing. You can also get an extension from the court to have more time to complete the hours.
If I remember right Habitat for Humanity is on that list and your 15 year old can work there IF you go work with him. I wasn't down with that. I didn't mess up and had no intentions of paying a consequence.
ALso check with the Capitol Area Food Bank, they take kids that age. I just didn't have enough time to get him through their process. (already did one extension)
Hope that helps. Kids eh!?

Start naming off those that do allow 15 year old service....
You didn't say ALL.

Perhaps check out the local YMCA. I once ran into a co-worker cleaning the locker room, turns out he was doing his community service for some sort of infraction. There are locations all over town.
